It’s about learning and growing
You’re dedicated, and that means your time as much as your effort. This 10-week, 40hr/week internship offers exposure to real-world business. As a Spectrum Intern, you’ll be essential to two teams — your respective department and your Intern peer group. Partner with other accomplished and dedicated interns on research and cross-functional projects. You’ll have an opportunity contribute real value and meaning to the larger organization.

Department and team-focused projects account for about 80% of your schedule. You’ll spend the other 20% on professional development sessions and networking activities, including the Kickoff Conference on May 29 and 30, webinars, community service, and final presentations. As part of a peer community, you’ll contribute to cross-functional group projects, and should be ready to take on new projects as they come up.

What you can expect in this role
  • Gain valuable experience working alongside 100+ designers as part of a highly specialized design team, encompassing UX and UI design, content strategy, UX research, prototyping, industrial design and accessibility
  • Contribute to the user experience of a product by crafting content to fit product needs (product copy, instructional text, UI labels, error messaging, marketing copy, etc.)
  • Understand design thinking and user experience design best practices; in particular, understand the difference between copywriting and content design
  • Help ensure consistent cross-product messaging across all digital channels (web, mobile, TV, wearables, print, voice)
  • Create copy that works as part of a UX/UI design solution that is engaging and effective to help achieve business goals
  • Collaborate with product managers, designers and developers to understand -- and write content that meets -- business and technical requirements
  • Create and/or adhere to voice/tone/style/brand content guidelines
  • Accept editorial feedback from stakeholders/peers and be great at incorporating it into your work. (And be able to offer design feedback to UX/UI designer-peers where appropriate.)
  • Possess a solid command of the English language (grammar, spelling and vocabulary) and strong attention to detail
  • Be a team-focused, collaborative person who works (and plays) well with others

UX writing and content strategy duties as part of product/feature design for some/all of the following products:
  • Spectrum Guide
  • Spectrum TV App (iOS, Android, Roku, Samsung, Xbox, Apple TV, web)
  • Spectrum account & support (customer web portal and app)
  • Spectrum Mobile (web portal and app)
  • Spectrum Enterprise
  • Internal apps (TechMobile, Lighthouse, Panorama, Distillery, others)

Skills and experience required for this role include:
  • Ability to travel locally to Spectrum Intern development events and activities throughout the program
  • Housing and transportation; these are not provided by Spectrum
  • Oral and written skills
  • Problem solving skills
  • Product design
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access
  • Technical documentation
  • Works well in a team environment
  • Works well independently
