Highlights
The Systems Engineer I is responsible for assisting design, development, and implementation of enterprise-wide Operations Support Systems (OSS) applications and their associated operating systems and databases. This role is responsible for Application Administration of OSS applications supporting all Spectrum Enterprise Divisions. This position also participates in full life-cycle of systems engineering activities of high-quality, scalable solutions.

What you will do
  • Actively and consistently support all efforts to simplify and enhance the client experience
  • Install, administer, configure and maintain NMS including operating systems and related software
  • Provide 'on call' support to resolve NMS issues after normal business hours
  • Use established change management processes, requiring operational procedures be performed with minimal client impact, (i.e. during an established maintenance window)
  • Work with database administrators to configure, tune and maintain databases in variety of languages
  • Document systems configurations and upgrades
  • Monitor and assist in managing applications, device availability, network conditions and status, system reliability and performance, service and program maintenance and storage resources
  • Work with current templates and assist with the design and construct new templates
  • Work with deployment and core service engineers to determine needs
  • Set up filters on data generated by monitors
  • Generate reports on server and application availability and performance
  • Perform additional duties related to this position as requested by a supervisor
  • Responsible for helping to manage production, CI/CD testing, and staging environments.
  • Perform general systems administration tasks such as backups, system and software updates, system support/troubleshooting, monitoring, etc.
  • Manage and maintain tools to automate operational processes
  • Operate the platform within our security and privacy guidelines
  • Implement and manage continuous delivery systems and methodologies for the NSM platform
  • Oversee Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment
Required keys for success
  • Two to five years of experience as Linux/Unix Systems Administrator
  • One to two years of database support experience
  • One to two years of Enterprise Application experience
  • Ability to read, write and speak the English language to communicate with employees, clients, suppliers, in person, on the phone, and by written communications in a clear, straight-forward, and professional manner
  • Basic ability to conduct design sessions to specify solution designs for feasibility, cost, and functionality
  • Basic ability to create detailed documentation to functionally understand new and existing applications
  • Basic ability to follow and implement established change and control policies and procedures
  • Basic ability to troubleshoot application problems
  • Basic knowledge of development tools, application frameworks, and testing tools
  • Basic knowledge of OSS applications and software
  • Basic knowledge of choosing the appropriate lifecycle and the planning, monitoring and control of the systems engineering process
  • Experience with Build/Deploy/Continuous Integration tools such as Jenkins or Bamboo, Art factory, Gitlab CI/CD
  • Experience with scripting languages such as Python, PowerShell, BASH, Ansible, YAML
  • System Administrator experience on Linux servers, and the entire LAMP stack (Apache/Nginx, MySQL/MariaDB, Python)
  • Understanding of protocols and technologies such as HTTP, SSL, LDAP, DNS
  • Experience working with cloud platforms (AWS/EC2, GCP/GKE, Open Stack, VMWare, etc.)
  • Experience with container orchestration technologies (Docker, Kubernetes, Openshift, Nomad, etc.)
How you will stand out from the crowd
  • Three or more years of database support experience
  • Three or more years of Enterprise Application experience
  • Experience with DevOps
  • Experience with Git, Jenkins, Gitlabs, Systsms Monitoring (Prometheus, Zabbix, CA UIM, etc.)
Your education
  • Bachelor's Degree in information system, or equivalent training, education and experience (required)
  • Master's Degree in Computer Science, Engineering or Science (preferred)
  • CCNA Certification (preferred)
