JOB TITLE: Director, Law Product

JOB SUMMARY:
This position is as part of a legal team supporting the Video Product group that creates, provides and oversees the Company’s video service offerings, including technologies such as DVR to residential and commercial customers. This job requires an understanding of, and the ability to negotiate, highly complex technology transactions, involving distribution of content over multiple platforms and Apps; and intellectual property rights.


MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Actively and consistently support all efforts to simplify and enhance the customer experience
- Advise members of the Product team on the wide array of legal issues that arise in connection with the creation, development and offering of the Company’s video and broadband services
- Collaborate closely and effectively with the content acquisition team and the lawyers that support that team to align the Company’s product initiatives with the contractual parameters of those content acquisition deals
- Work closely with the Company’s Regulatory attorneys to ensure that the various service offerings and contract negotiations comply with the wide array of regulations that apply to our video and broadband products and services
- Negotiate, highly complex technology transactions, involving distribution of content over multiple platforms and Apps; multi-party software licensing; software and App development; and intellectual property rights
- Assess legal risks of existing and new video and broadband products and services. Advise business executives on strategies to mitigate and/or reduce such risks
- Understand the lawyer’s role within the decision-making process. Demonstrate the ability to work within that role to build consensus with business executives
- Negotiate and draft complex, commercial agreements
- Coordinate and manage outside counsel as required, including managing legal budgets for outside counsel
- Advise Product team and other business units regarding the application of video and broadband regulations to the Company’s products and services
- Work with Government Affairs, other teams within PPR-Legal, and appropriate business units to provide comments and other input (either directly or through industry groups such as NCTA) at the FCC and other federal and state regulatory agencies and governmental bodies on proceedings in which regulations impacting the Company’s video and broadband businesses are proposed
- Advise on legal strategies in such proceedings (including possible litigation) to protect the company’s interests
- Work with the SVP Litigation to manage litigation related to video and broadband regulations
- Work with Government Affairs and the VP – Law, Policy to develop long-term regulatory strategy with respect to video and broadband regulations
- Perform other duties as required

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Skills / Abilities and Knowledge
Strong legal reasoning and drafting skills
Ability to make decisions and creatively solve problems while working under pressure
Ability to manage multiple projects at one time and shift gears as priorities change
Ability to communicate complicated legal issues concisely to business executives
Ability to work well with a team, including cross-functionally

Education
Juris Doctor degree from an accredited law school; top tier law school preferred
Admission to State Bar in which Attorney practices


Related Work Experience
5+ years of relevant experience as a lawyer within a top-tier law firm or in house in the cable or similar industry is required
