Spectrum Networks is looking for enthusiastic, talented and driven individuals to join the best and brightest in gathering, producing and delivering stories that make a difference within a 24-hour breaking news environment! Our commitment is to engage viewers with relevant, timely news that's important to the local communities we serve.

Who we are: Spectrum Networks is a growing organization, home of 27 Local News Channels nationwide and 9 Local/Regional Sports Channels, inclusive of 3 Los Angeles based Sports Networks. Spectrum Networks is the news and sports division of Charter Communications, Inc. (NASDAQ: CHTR), the leading broadband communications company and the second-largest cable operator in the United States.

The Environment: Spectrum News is a 24-hour news network that requires employees be flexible and available to work various shifts throughout the day, including early mornings, late evenings, weekends and holidays. The network is currently focused on the morning news, which means your day will start in the middle of the night, but it also means your workday will end around noon (most days).

What we’re looking for: The Executive Producer will provide managerial oversight of special content for various platforms, including both individual elements inside coverage and/or special coverage/programs as a whole, including sports, politics and breaking news. This may relate to important daily news coverage, franchise, feature, or special event coverage and documentaries.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Collaborates with show’s EP/host taking story from concept, to script to edit to final delivery, executing any notes given along the way
  • Oversee decisions on story lineup, video/audio elements, graphics and timing to construct a show
  • Strong writing ability and oversight of all scripts
  • Generate story and coverage ideas on a daily and long-term basis
  • Follow through on all assignments meeting required deadlines
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

Skills/Abilities and Knowledge

  • Strong researching background
  • Strong news judgment and attention to detail; long form interview experience a plus
  • Experience booking newsmakers
  • Highly organized when it comes to managing schedule/deliverables and shoots
  • Extensive experience working in the field and in the edit room who can work in lock step with in-house producers, Associate Producer’s, and/or external production company to make sure all issues are covered
  • Confident knowledge of Adobe Premiere, and strong ability to produce and edit features and packages within Premiere when needed
  • Working knowledge of small-format/DSLR or equivalent camera to shoot as needed, and strong comprehension of the MMJ/”Preditor” working environment
  • Ability to work effectively within a team environment and interact with all personnel within the organization
  • Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills
  • Attention to detail
  • Must be able to work rapidly and accurately
  • Knowledge of current events and industry trends
  • Pro-active with demonstrated enthusiasm in dealing with breaking news and high-stress situations
  • Ability to effectively train others
  • Mid-level shooting & editing skills
  • Knowledge of legal standards to ensure editorial guidelines of all segments
  • Working knowledge of general office computer software, newsroom software and basic non-linear editing systems preferred
  • Ability to read, write, speak and understand English
  • Good problem solving skills and the ability to multitask and work effectively under changing priorities and time constraints

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Broadcast Journalism or related field or comparable television work experience
  • 5+ years of producing long form and magazine news pieces experience
  • 5+ years in multi-platform content creation and development experience
  • 2+ years of shooting and editing experience a very strong plus

  • Overtime may be required to meet deadlines
  • Varying schedule due to, breaking news and/or daily news coverage requirements
  • Provide 24x7, 365 days per year, on-call support. May entail phone or physical presence at the facility for equipment failure or other disasters. This includes, but is not limited to equipment and power failures, loss of contracted services, storms or severe weather, and schedule conflicts
  • Participation in an established on-call rotation
