JOB SUMMARY:Lead the research, development and design, and test carrier backbone topologies and technologies for implementation into the USA’s 2nd largest network.Create concept, architectural, design and requirements documents for all designed systems. Create test plans, implementation guides, configuration templates and methods of procedure as necessary that have multiple departmental scope including Border Gateway Protocol, Intermediate System to Intermediate System, Multiprotocol, Label Switching, and managed Extensibility Framework. Coordinate with other technical discipline teams, vendors, and manufacturers in the design development. Present design documents to other technology and leadership teams. Participate in review meetings to review designs developed by other technology teams to develop end-to-end solutions that work. Automate the process of qualifying and deploying new network services to production environment, and the integration and regression tests for core network components. Provide technical leadership within the areas of expertise and mentor junior engineers. Participate in one or more industry associations as a technical subject matter expert. Attend one or more conferences per year and may be expected to present at conferences. Author and present documents to peers and industry. Submits patent ideas on the behalf of Charter Communications. Work with lab equipment including equipment under test, Layer1 switches, network traffic generators, optical test equipment and multitudes of network monitoring software. Develop test suites and test cases, and run those test cases to test network equipment, functions, configurations, and interoperability.
EDUCATION/
REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor's degree (or foreign equivalent) in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field or related work experience and 7 years of experience working with TCP/IP, IPv4, IPv6 and the OSI Model; routing protocols utilizing EBGP, IBGP, OSPF and ISIS in a large telecommunications service provider network. Must have 5 years of experience composing architecture, design and requirements documents to be used by other engineers; Multiple Subscriber Operator (MSO) company; developing test suites and test cases; planning and leading complex technical projects; performing architecture and design network solutions to solve computer business issues; utilizing industry specifications and standards IEEE, ANSI, Fiber (Multimode, Single mode, and UTP), Bridging, Switching, Routing, Ethernet and Transport technologies and protocols; configuring and testing BGP, IS-IS, OSPF, MPLS, CGN, MAP-T, QOS, WDM, Netflow and SNMP. Possess computer networking industry advanced certifications including: Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP) or Juniper Networks Certified Professional Enterprise Routing and Switching (JNCIP-ENT) or higher. 5% domestic travel annually (2-3 trips per year).




Salaries depend on geography, experience, and education; negotiations begin at $128,898
