Responsibilities
JOB SCOPE
** This position is eligible to work in a hybrid work model (combination of in-office and remote days). **
As a Principal Engineer II on this team, you will be responsible for setting Charter’s Core and Backbone networks strategy by providing architectural guidance and developing standards related but not limited to BGP, IS-IS, MPLS, Traffic Engineering, MAP-T, COS/QOS, WDM, Streaming Telemetry, and Netflow. You will work with product development and technical operations to develop and maintain network technology and infrastructure roadmaps. You will develop network designs and configurations. You will develop testing tool set to greatly enhance the speed, accuracy, and consistency of test plan performance. You will execute test runs to validate functionality of new features, hardware, or software versions. You will provide operations support including technical services and service delivery.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Forecasting, Planning and Identification of resources requirements for complex network systems
- Monitor, analyze, and report capacity of Network solution system utilization and perform growth analysis/capacity planning
- Produce designs, BOM’s & A-Z’s, monitors, enhances and troubleshoots Network systems in regional areas - but not limited to
- Assigned complex and critical projects that involve several technical systems and constituents
- Analyzes and revises existing logical service flows and documentation as necessary
- Provides engineering technical support and guidance to regional personnel and ensure all technical integration, changes, standards and documentation requirements are met
- Mentors and guides the work of junior and senior technical staff
- Reviews work plans and designs and advises on improvements
- Produce and maintain documentation on current systems to a level sufficient to ensure knowledge transfer and continuity of support
- Identifies, assesses, and develops detailed requirements for upgrading networks, re-architecting network segments in order to facilitate new requirements, technologies and growth
BASIC / MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Network Engineering or related field or related work experience
- Minimum of seven (7) years of Network Engineering work experience
REQUIRED JOB QUALIFICATIONS
- Proficient knowledge of IPv4 and IPv6 Networking, Routing (OSPF/BGP/ISIS/PIM) and Switching (STP/SVI/VLAN, IRB/BVI)
- Proficient knowledge of multiple vendor OS (iOS, iOS-XR, JUNOS, SR OS)
- Established knowledge in ticketing and Network applications such as: Jira, Redmine, Aletheia, WAE, CA Performance Center, Netbrain, SharePoint
- Knowledge of Optical platforms and ROADM technologies and topologies a plus.
- Knowledge of industry specifications and standards such as DOCSIS and PON/RFOG
- Working knowledge of Microsoft software Suite with emphasis on Excel and Visio
- Ability to multi-task and prioritize multiple objectives and initiatives
- Must have good interpersonal skills, and the ability to relate well with both technical and non-technical professionals across a diverse work force
PREFERRED EDUCATION
- Cisco Certified (CCNP, CCIE) - Industry and vendor specific certifications and training preferred (Cisco, Juniper, Nokia, etc.)

The base pay for this position generally is between $124,000.00 and $220,000.00. The actual compensation offered will carefully consider a wide range of factors, including your skills, qualifications, experience, and location. We comply with local wage minimums and also, certain positions are eligible for additional forms of other incentive-based compensation such as bonuses.
