System Engineer III – DBA is a high level individual contributor role responsible for providing day to day operational support for the network back office databases supporting platforms, application and services for our subscriber base. This position will focus on supporting Oracle RAC databases with Data Guard and GoldenGate on Exadata and VM platforms.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Design, deploy, and manage Oracle databases to provide security, high availability, fault tolerance, and scalability to support mission critical systems.
Strong experience with performance tuning and supporting RAC, ASM, Data Guard, and GoldenGate. Aurora Postgres in AWS, DynamoDB and demonstrated interest in working with other SQL and NOSQL databases.
Experience supporting Exadata.
Supporting daily operations under pressure and meet strict deadlines is a must. Duties includes break/fixes, upgrades, installations and monitoring of Databases within back office systems.
Familiarity with the tasks involved in the day-to-day operation, monitoring, maintenance and troubleshooting.
Create and produce reports, ad hoc queries, dashboards, etc.
Develop reports and deliverables for management and communicate with all levels of stakeholders
Integrate data from multiple sources to produce requested or required data elements
Work with and manage systems in a large scale, high availability environment
Motivated self-starter and independent thinker
Strong organizational skills
Ability to work under tight deadlines with a “get the job done” mindset
Strong sense of responsibility – willing to take ownership of issues
Apply quarterly Oracle security patches.
Assist with capacity planning, configurations, and complete setup.
Develop scripts to automate routine activities, including health checks, backups, and monitoring.
Other duties as assigned by the manager.
Available to perform maintenance after hours.
Role will include on-call duties as assigned. Consistent with a 24 X 7 Operations environment, periodic cell phone availability will be necessary to respond to escalated issues.
BASIC / MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering or related field, and/or equivalent work experience.
Minimum of Five (5) years of Oracle database administration experience.
At least Two (2) years of Unix administration experience.
ADDITIONAL JOB QUALIFICATIONS
Perform basic Unix administration support
Advanced skills with Automated Deployments, Configuration Management and Compliance Validations Tools
Experience with MongoDB and/or AWS a bonus
Expert skills in methodical, logical and process driven troubleshooting of platforms, architectures and systems. Able to lead an outage bridge. Excellent technical skills including strong problem-solving abilities.
Expert communication / presentation skills in written and verbal forms. Able to lead cross functional engineering teams
