JOB SUMMARY Responsible for design and engineering of cloud-based video technologies enabling video processing, storage and delivery components supporting the Spectrum TV application. Works closely with technical operations staff on system design and configuration. Advanced technical and design skills. Collaborates with the design teams and advises team leaders.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Actively and consistently support all efforts to simplify and enhance the customer experience.
Assigned complex and critical projects that involve several technical systems and constituents.
Duties include working with a team of advanced engineers whom support the development, integration, test, and troubleshooting of various technologies which support Charter’s mobile/web video delivery, cloud infrastructure and encryption/DRM solutions for production deployment and engineering labs.
Participate in creating architecture, specifications, and test plans for production product deployment.
Work cross-functionally with Product, Engineering, Project Management, and Operations teams.
Provide subject matter expertise in most of the following areas and have knowledge and some experience with the rest; public/private CDNs, IP networking, Cloud DVR, encoding technologies, packaging, DRM, origin solutions, VOD, DRM and Cloud infrastructure technologies.
Provide analysis, specifications and test plans in support of various advanced engineering and development projects to include, but not limited to: availability, elasticity, scale, performance, security and control for private/public/hybrid cloud system architectures.
Direct the evaluation and test of new hardware platforms and technologies to provide implementation and design documentation.
Mentors and guides the work of senior technical staff.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS Required Skills/Abilities and Knowledge Strong inquisitive nature and ability to work well with vendors and internal stakeholders to drive to solutions.
Ability to read, write and speak the English language to communicate with employees, customers, suppliers, in person, on the phone, and by written communications in a clear, straight-forward, and professional manner
Ability to perform duties in a very fast pace environment and ability to learn new technology quickly
Experience with public clouds; AWS, GCP, Azure etc
Experience with private cloud technologies; virtualization and containerization, OpenStack, OpenShift, Kubernetes, Rancher, VMware, SDN, Automation, Chef, Ansible
CDN architectures for live and VoD video distribution
CDN cache/proxy technologies such as NGINX, Varnish, Apache traffic server, etc and optimization for low latency/high bandwidth packet transfer
Modern service delivery networks – IP v4/v6 Networking and ABR streaming protocols such as MPEG-DASH and HLS
Developing scripts and tools for system automation, performance benchmarking and exercising various APIs. Some software development process experience with some coding experience is required
IP anycast addressing and BGP routing
Storage technologies and interfaces such as block storage, file storage, object storage, CEPH, S3, NFS, SWIFT
MVPD networks and systems for delivering Linear and VoD services is a plus
Ability to read, write, speak and understand English Advanced knowledge of related industry specifications and standards IEEE, ANSI, Fiber (Multimode, Single mode, UTP, etc.), Bridging, Switching, Routing, Ethernet and Transport technologies and protocols Advanced knowledge in network design, network architecture, protocols and network topology Advanced knowledge in TCP/IP and the OSI Model Advanced knowledge in using ticketing and software tools to support the current operations. Advanced knowledge of network devices and basic network appliances Advanced knowledge of network designing software, such as Visio Ability to perform duties in a very fast pace environment and ability to learn new technology quickly Ability to use personal computer and software applications
Required Education Masters or Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or related field or related work experience
Required Related Work Experience and Number of Years Engineering work experience - 10-15 Project management work experience - 10-15

The pay for this position has a salary range of $120,700.00 to $213,900.00. The actual salary offer will carefully consider a wide range of factors, including your skills, qualifications, experience and location. Also, certain positions are eligible for additional forms of compensation such as bonuses.
