A day in the lifeOur Field Technicians are responsible for the installation of Digital Video, High Speed Internet and Digital Phone. Working both inside and out, technicians travel to customer sites to inspect equipment, independently diagnose service issues and construct innovative solutions.
Juan - Spectrum Field Technician: As a technician, we do cable installation, internet installation, and phone installation.
Juan (on-site): "All right, we're here."
Juan: You're constantly learning. You're constantly doing something new. The environment's always changing for you. It's never the same.
Anna - Spectrum Field Technician: As a technician, you're out there rain, shine. You're just experiencing everything. Getting to meet new people. It's always fun. I'm always laughing on my job.
Anna (on-site): "You might run into a celebrity one day and you might be face to face with a skunk underneath a house the next day."
Anna: As a technician for Spectrum. You come face to face with a ton of different people every day.
Speaker 3 (on-site): "Hi!"
Anna (on-site): "Hello. Anna with Spectrum."
Speaker 3 (on-site): "Come on in."
Anna: You get to see how they live their lives. They always love to share stories with you as you're working. Favorite things about working here, you have independence, so you're not stuck with somebody watching over your shoulder 24/7. You also have a support network to fall back on, someone to go to for answers. Spectrum has a great training program.
Juan: We climb poles, it's always a great view up there. You can't be afraid of heights.
Anna: Worst part of going into an attic would probably be during the summer. The heat is really impressive in attics. You also get into small crawl spaces underneath the house. If you're claustrophobic, not the greatest job.
Anna (on-site): "No animals in there."
Juan: You get discounted cable here.
Anna: The benefits that you have here are really great. You have the opportunity to take your van home. You're not using your own gas to drive to work every day. And we also get health benefits, medical, dental, vision. There's a lot of room for movement, just laterally. If you want to stay and work in a different capacity, or if you want to move upwards and become, a supervisor or working in different department, you can learn, they can teach you. You can get this job done.
Juan: There's tons and tons of technology with the services that people don't know about. So we definitely go into detail, telling them either download the app or hey, you could stream things at a faster speed.
Anna: When you complete an install or the customer stuff is all working, they've been without cable as they've been moving their house, they've got their internet working, it's back. I've had people who are literally jumping up and down for joy.
Juan: If you're looking for a rewarding job, if you're interested in talking to customers, and meeting new people every day, and being out there and not stuck in the little office, this job is definitely for you. Being a technician here at Spectrum is not a job. It's a career.
