Director, Senior Counsel - Employment Law, Arbitration

JOB SUMMARY
The Director and Senior Counsel, Employment Law is responsible for managing all facets of employment-related arbitration claims, including overseeing the Company’s employment arbitration program, coordinating with the American Arbitration Association (AAA) and/or or Judicial Arbitration and Mediation Services (JAMS) to secure arbitrators, responding to arbitration claims submitted via the Company’s portal, developing legal strategies related to arbitrations, and litigating arbitration claims through adjudication. The position reports to Charter’s Senior Vice President and Associate General Counsel, Employment Law. The successful candidate will also research legal principles and precedents, gather relevant case related information, and drafts legal documents. Finally, the successful candidate will advise management and other internal clients on legal matters to promote compliance with applicable employment laws and regulations.

This role will preferably be based in Stamford CT, with an alternative location option in St. Louis MO.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Actively and consistently support the Company’s business efforts
  • Manage claims and law suits involving the Company
  • Interpret laws, rulings, and regulations
  • Prepare and present compliance and legal briefing to management
  • Research and draft summaries of legal issues
  • Evaluate existing policies, procedures and applicable training for the corporation
  • Support various business units by assessing legal risk and providing legal solutions to business issues
  • Meet with business clients and third-parties
  • Negotiate, review, or draft pleadings, briefs, correspondence, and agreements
  • Coordinate and manage outside counsel as required
  • Keep informed of industry-specific statutes and regulations and ensures that appropriate risk management strategies are formulated and followed
  • Work proactively with attorneys in other legal practice areas to proactively identify and address key legal issues for management
  • Perform other duties as required
  • Ability to travel 40-60% of time (exemption during Covid19)

Education
Juris Doctor from an accredited law school. Top twenty percent, and law review preferred.
Admission to State Bar in which Attorney practices

Related Work Experience
Five to Ten years of experience in general business legal issues
Some experience with bankruptcy preferred
