Director, HR Communications

The Director, HR Communications will plan and develop communications for Charter’s pay, benefits and career programs. The Director will need to apply critical thinking, professional writing skills and functional knowledge to create effective and innovative communication strategies that help employees understand and appreciate the benefits and programs that Charter provides as a means to attract, engage and retain employees.

  • Develop and implement the communication strategy for annual benefits enrollment using digital and innovative methods to reach dispersed/frontline audience
  • Develop and execute strategy to drive employee behavior change in areas such as health care consumerism and financial readiness
  • Develop and implement communications for executive compensation programs, including equity and bonus
  • Provide communication support for ad hoc HR projects aligned with strategic priorities
  • Develop, edit, proofread and/or review various communication materials for style, understanding and consistency in messaging with other communications materials
  • Develop written messages from senior leaders, including content for internal and external presentations as needed
  • Develop and manage effective communications measures and analytics to assess and improve performance as relates to any HR communication delivered via any medium, including the creation of a quarterly communication scorecard to be shared with senior leaders
  • Support quarterly HR Town Halls, including building the agenda, developing presentations highlighting key HR initiatives and other relevant content
  • Effectively partner with key stakeholders both within and outside of HR, including Internal Communications and Government Affairs
  • Oversee external vendors in support of HR communication activities
  • Perform other duties as assigned by Vice President, HR Communications to support HR communications programs, campaigns, and initiatives

Skills /Abilities and Knowledge
Excellent writing skills, including strong command of grammar and ability to edit and proofread copy; demonstrated ability to write materials for a variety of audiences, to adapt writing style to different media, and to create compelling marketing, action-oriented copy
Strong oral communication skills; demonstrated the presence and ability to communicate well with others
Expertise in employee communication principles and strategies
Strong project management and problem-solving skills

Team player with the ability to collaborate with multiple internal stakeholders at all levels of the organization and build strong relationships within and outside the HR Communications team
Technical knowledge of compensation, health and insurance benefits, retirement benefits and performance management
Change management and social media experience/expertise a plus

Bachelor’s degree in in Journalism, Communications or related field or equivalent experience

Related Work Experience
10 years of related experience, prefer prior experience in internal communications or consulting

Office environment
Some travel required
