Who we are: Spectrum Networks is a series of 30 + local news and regional sports networks owned and operated by Charter Communications, Inc. Spectrum Networks seeks to provide the most essential local news and information, cultivating relevant and thoughtful conversations that foster informed and engaged communities.
The Environment: Spectrum News operates in a 24-hour news cycle which can require employees to be flexible and available to work various shifts, including early morning, late evenings, weekends and holidays.

What we’re looking for:This Producer loves politics and following all the action in Washington, but also eager to dig in on enterprise, develop a local character driven piece and find just the right elements to make the story shine. The experienced producer can easily create news content on their own or collaborate with a reporter. Responsible for news gathering, tracking breaking stories, communicating information and producing elements and content for local and national newscasts and programming. Produce local and national live events from the bureau and in the field including the White House and the US Capitol. Participates in coordinating coverage of Washington stories, breaking news and specials.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Actively and consistently support all efforts to simplify and enhance the customer experience.
- Produce elements, content and news packages for local markets and national newscasts including making decisions on scripts, video/audio elements, and graphics.
- Work closely with reporters, managers and other producers in all environments to create political content for local and national newscasts.
- Pitch story ideas and arrange and conduct interviews.
- Write and produce breaking news stories for local and national newscasts; ensuring content is factually correct and written in a clear and concise conversational style.
- Ability to write, edit, shoot and produce live and recorded events in the studio or in the field
- Verifies stories are written to the pictures being edited and/or vice versa.
- Follows through on all assignments meeting required deadlines
- Produces live and taped special programming as needed.
- Works in computerized newsroom environment.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities and Knowledge
Ability to read, write, speak and understand English
Demonstrated broadcast news writing ability
Ability to anticipate situations and meet strict deadlines
Interpersonal skills and excellent collaboration skills
Ability to work effectively within a team environment and interact with all personnel within the organization
Knowledge of current events and industry trends
Attention to detail
Familiarity with Washington and the Federal Government
Knowledge of social media platforms
Ability to work rapidly and accurately
Basic editing skills
Education & Experience:
Bachelor's Degree required or equivalent combination of education and experience
Relevant work experience – 2+
Working Conditions:
Normal office environment
Works primarily inside a climate-controlled environment throughout the year but might be assigned field duties on occasion
Works in an open newsroom setting with a semi-noisy environment
Ability to work different shifts and be flexible with schedule changes
May be required to lift up to 5 pounds
