How This Leader Drove Her Career Progression at Spectrum

What attracted you to work at Spectrum? How did you know it would be a good fit?

My previous positive experience with Spectrum products, first as a customer, gave me confidence in the brand and sparked my interest in becoming part of the company. Once I joined, I was impressed by the comprehensive training program and unwavering support I received from my instructor and leadership team. I felt like everyone was genuinely invested in my success, with many colleagues willing to guide and mentor me. The opportunities for growth through peer mentor programs and special projects were incredibly fulfilling and exposed me to different aspects of the business, solidifying my desire to continue to grow my career here at Spectrum.

What are you responsible for in your current role?

I am responsible for leading a retention call center. Our retention team is responsible for understanding what is important to the customer by discussing how they use our services in their daily lives, and then presenting offers that can address the needs of the entire household. Some of my day-to-day responsibilities include overseeing hiring and staffing, ensuring effective training for our customer-facing employees and providing ongoing mentorship and development to help retain talent and continuously improve our work culture.

What are you working on right now that excites or inspires you?

Currently, I am spearheading the launch of a new bilingual retention site. As part of this initiative, I am responsible for building a team that will grow to over 400 employees over the next eight to nine months. This project has provided me with the opportunity to partner with various business units and gain valuable insights into budgeting, purchasing, construction and design, operational readiness components and requirements, facilities management, and more.

What do you value most about Spectrum’s culture? What sets it apart from other places you’ve worked?

What I value the most about our culture is the leadership team’s ability to see the best in people and help employees believe in themselves. Spectrum fosters an environment where employees can find passion in the work they do and be successful in their roles. This supportive atmosphere encourages innovation and allows individuals to reach their full potential. I also appreciate the company’s investment in continuing education and development for its workforce. I reached a point in my career where I wanted to further develop and explore continuing my education. In 2022, a colleague was completing his master’s program and shared his experiences and how applicable the classes were to our roles. I decided a master’s degree would be a good addition to my educational background. As part of our education benefit, employees can receive up to $10,000 per year in tuition reimbursement for graduate school. Knowing that my out-of-pocket costs would be minimal solidified my decision to continue my education and continue to advance my career with Spectrum—without incurring out-of-pocket costs.

What’s one thing you would want a candidate to know about what it’s like to work at Spectrum?

I work for an organization where people take a genuine interest in making you feel welcome and included. For instance, we have various business resource groups (BRGs), including those for veterans, women, and the LGBTQ community that provide a platform to network with individuals who share similar backgrounds and interests, or that can enhance your understanding of unfamiliar topics. These BRGs are more than just networking opportunities; they are integral to fostering a sense of belonging and inclusion in the workplace and can aid in personal and professional development, offering mentorship, support, and avenues for career advancement.

How has Spectrum shown appreciation for your work?

I’ve been fortunate to have managers who invest in my growth and development and have entrusted me with leadership positions that have a direct and positive impact on the organization, such as launching a bilingual retention site. Throughout my tenure, I’ve also had the opportunity to live in several beautiful cities and work in different environments and cultures, which has enriched my professional journey and broadened my perspective. The combination of mentorship, development opportunities and the trust placed in me are indicators of Spectrum’s appreciation for my efforts and motivate me to continue contributing to the company’s success.
