JOB SCOPE
The Principal Engineer I and Lead Platform Strategist for wireless operations under Technology Operations drives 5G and WiFi service assurance and operational platform evolution, developing solutions that converge 5G and WiFi observability, automation opportunities, and integration with AI/ML via Operations Intelligence (OI).
Strong PE I to drive projects from deployment automation to improved network anomaly detection and observability.
Works with technical operations staff on system design and configuration. Works with design teams and advises team leaders.
DUTIES AND RESPONSBILITIES
- Defines the overall service assurance platform strategy for Charter wireless networks.
- Owns overall platform and configurations, KPIs, KQIs, soft alarms, and hard alarms, specifying and validating the appropriate thresholding.
- Own strategy and roadmap for deployment, restoral, and reconfiguration tools and platforms.
- Leads observability and dashboard development required for deployment, network performance optimization, service assurance, and operational performance, including geospatial data mgt and visual and data traffic modeling/trending.
- Designs, implements, monitors, enhances and troubleshoots systems in assigned areas.
- Analyzes and revises existing system logic difficulties and documentation as necessary.
- Tests and reviews system designs.
- Provides Engineering Technical support and guidance to regional personnel and ensure all technical integration, changes, standards and documentation are met.
- Mentors and guides the work of technical staff.
- Reviews work plans and designs and advises on improvements.
- Adheres to industry specific local, state, and federal regulations, as applicable.
- Knows, understands and follows company policy.
- Performs other duties as requested by manager.
BASIC / MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Masters or Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or related field or related work experience
- Minimum five (5) years of Engineering work experience
- Minimum five (5) years of Project management work experience
REQUIRED JOB QUALIFICATIONS
- Ability to read, write, speak and understand English
- Basic knowledge of related industry specifications and standards IEEE, ANSI, Fiber (Multimode, Single mode, UTP, etc.), Bridging, Switching, Routing, Ethernet and Transport technologies and protocols
- Basic knowledge in network design, network architecture, protocols and network topology
- Basic knowledge in TCP/IP and the OSI Model
- Basic knowledge in using ticketing and software tools to support the current operations.
- Basic knowledge of network devices and basic network appliances
- Basic knowledge of network designing software, such as Visio
- Ability to perform duties in a very fast pace environment and ability to learn new technology quickly
- Ability to use personal computer and software applications
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Knowledge of company products and services
- Cisco Certified Internetwork Expert (CCIE)
- Industry and vendor specific certifications and training preferred (Cisco, Juniper, Alcatel-Lucent, etc.)
- Possesses a deep understanding of FCAPS model and ITSM.
- Knowledge of wireless network systems and functions, such as RAN (5G gNB/CBSD WiFi 4/5/6/6E/7 AP), fiber backhaul, DOCSIS backhaul, core (Wireless Access Gateways, 5G- AMF, AUSF, SMF, UPF, PCF, NSSF, NEF, UDM, NRF, UDR, AF), EMS/OSS, BSS, 5G devices, and other ancillary systems.
- Working knowledge of 3GPP and IEEE standards. Understands service assurance process flows and triage.
- Thorough understanding of Business Cable, Internet and/or transport systems and services
- Ability to lead matrix teams: must be comfortable in a highly visible role; a great consensus builder and the clear champion of their area of responsibility.
- Ability to influence other organizations and rally key stakeholders within the company to achieve key objectives.
- Ability to communicate with all levels of management and company personnel as well as in public forums.
- Great organizational and office management skills.

The base pay for this position generally is between $110,800.00 and $196,400.00. The actual compensation offered will carefully consider a wide range of factors, including your skills, qualifications, experience, and location. We comply with local wage minimums and also, certain positions are eligible for additional forms of other incentive-based compensation such as bonuses.
