Spectrum’s Broadband Field Technician Apprenticeship Program Has Been Recognized By The Department Of Labor
There are many reasons why Spectrum is a great place to build your career. From our career progression opportunities to our proactive maintenance efforts, it’s an exciting time for our field technicians.
Spectrum’s Broadband Field Technician Apprenticeship Program (BFTAP), recognized by the Department of Labor, is available for field technicians who have been with the Company for less than 18 months. BFTAP provides classroom, online and on-the-job training including customer service, safety and the skills required to perform installations and service calls, all at no cost to employees. When participants finish the Program, they receive an official certificate of completion that is recognized throughout our industry.
More than 2,000 employees have graduated from the Program since 2018. Employees have been recognized by the Department of Labor once they completed Field Technician IV or Maintenance Technician I training. Over 2,200 employees are currently enrolled in the Program, including more than 300 veterans. Participating veterans receive GI Bill benefits in addition to their paychecks while they are enrolled.
“Many of the program’s graduates are military veterans. Field Operations offers veterans several different opportunities to use the technical skills they developed while serving, and the BFTAP is one phenomenal opportunity to create that connection. And as a Navy veteran, I know that training and preparation make a team successful when it counts.” John Quigley, SVP, Field Operations
Spectrum is the only company in the telecommunications industry that offers this Program to its employees. The Program was developed internally to showcase Spectrum's commitment in deploying a highly skilled workforce for our customers. Field technicians at Spectrum can self-progress from Field Tech I through Field Tech V. After that, career growth opportunities are endless through Spectrum's various posted positions.
As we continue our efforts to improve service for our customers, having highly skilled field technicians is more important than ever. Between our ongoing proactive maintenance initiative, utilizing proactive truck rolls, identifying, and addressing potential problems - it’s an exciting time to be in Field Operations. The White House recently mentioned our commitments in a recent press release touting its Infrastructure Talent Pipeline Challenge.
