So, I think most people think of Spectrum as just a cable company and cable companies aren't known for being necessarily on the cutting edge of technology, but our data science team is actually using pretty high tech machine learning techniques to predict customer behaviors so that we can improve customer experience.

In my role as a Director of Software Development, I'm responsible for multiple software engineering delivery teams, especially on the video line of business. We are encouraged and we have multiple initiatives that are constantly going on to innovate so that we can provide new services to our customers.

I'm Senior Product Designer at Spectrum through the agency. My role specifically is in news, sports, and communications we help deliver products that are either external facing or internal facing.

My current app is the Spectrum News app so that is a mobile application for IOS and Android and the goal of that is to deliver news to our Spectrum customers.

I started at Spectrum as a Solutions Architect. The team was great and that's where I learned a lot about technology and then I was offered a position of Director of Software Development. I strongly believe in the opportunities that Spectrum gives me. I think growth comes organically as long as you do good work.

I started as a Senior Manager leading a small team and as our data analytics group grew, I did get a couple of nice promotions pretty quickly.

I feel like Spectrum was very supportive of my growth. I've been to leadership training, which has been really helpful with going from leading a small team to now leading an almost 40-person organization.

The reason Spectrum attracted me was because of the people and the technology. The technology is cutting edge and the people that I work with are very smart and I get to learn from them.

Our team is collaborative and welcoming. We all want to help each other succeed instead of competing with each other, and I think because of that it makes people want to stay.

We like to have fun. Sometimes we go play ping pong downstairs or go get a coffee or we just hang around and chat. I believe in “Work Hard Play Hard.”

My team specifically is small and mighty. We're actually all female except for one so that feels empowering in the sense that we are agile, we're collaborative, we're super fun.

On my team we have a fairly good training program where we are able to hire candidates straight out of college and provide them with the tools that they need to succeed and for someone who's maybe earlier in their career it's a really great place to launch your career and learn very quickly.

I think the benefits of working at Spectrum specifically and at a large scale is your work is definitely touched by many so that should be exciting if you're a designer, especially in product, we have the opportunity to use our technology to impact the world.

Kick-start your Finance career

With three full-time rotations in two years, our Finance Rotational Program gives you the chance to work across different functional areas of our team. Along the way, you'll build up your skill set and gain exposure to key leaders across our company. At the end of your program, we'll work with you to uncover opportunities for placement on our team.

Chris: People start their career in a very technical capacity and they work their way up through a vertical function and they become experts in their trade. The upside of that is that they become a specialist in what they do. The downside to that is they really haven't had much exposure to the inner workings of other parts of the company. This rotational program was really designed to give an opportunity to see the different functions, how they contribute, how they work together.

Brandon: The three rotations are financial accounting, internal audit services, and a treasury and tax combination. One of the most interesting programs that I've worked on so far is in the internal audit rotation. They have a compliance team that kind of handles some of the ethics and fraud cases. They get cases assigned to them and they'll investigate whether the employee was doing things that they should or should not have been doing. And when people kind of describe the role to you, it almost sounds like a TV show.

Jacquelyn: A lot of rotation programs at different companies is directly recruiting out of college. We're looking for experienced hires, about two to three years out, somebody who wants to have experienced different areas of finance before making the decision where they want to go.

Tiona: What I look for in someone joining the team is someone who will give it their all, and that they can bring their personality, that they can bring their professionalism and they can bring their knowledge and insight to the team.

Sarah: They make an extra effort to make sure you have what you need to exceed at your job and to take the next step in your job.

Brandon: From the very first day I was here in the office, the group VP made sure to introduce himself, he would regularly stop by my desk, ask me how things were going. And to have somebody at a higher level, kind of check in and act as a mentor for me made me feel like I made a good choice, right from day one.

Chris: This program is designed to start building the future management of the company from the ground up, and really have an opportunity to accelerate their career development by being willing to take some risks along the way.

Jerri: Spectrum does a great job in recognizing employees contributions and providing opportunities to develop our top leadership plays a huge role in providing those opportunities.

Chris: It really sets up the company well to have a longterm employee, who's happy with what they're doing and has some level of input into where their career really takes off from. That's the overall goal, not just for finance, but I think that's a goal that we should have for the entire company.
