As a Principal Engineer I o­­n VLEO Regional team you will be responsible for engineering activities that maintain and enhance the company's telecommunications and signal processing hardware, software and testbed environments that we manage. Work with Development, Integration, and Video Operations teams to provide a stable, healthy environment and end-user experience for QAM based video development, integration testing, field issue replication and validations across the Mini-Charters and Mini Charter neighborhoods. We are the sustaining team responsible for Lab head end components and Mini-Charter 1 Platform systems environment functionality end to end.  Build and configure components for High-Split and DAA/RPHY, code deployment, troubleshoot issues and manage configuration changes in the Legacy and Spectrum Guide video ecosystem.  Collaborate and support testing with proof of concept, validations and troubleshooting to deliver portfolio Track1 and 2 initiatives with speed and velocity.  Ensuring compliance with cybersecurity standards and remediation best practices. Manage three sub-components, Core-Video, Spectrum Guide Platform, and CPE.  Advise leadership and team leads; as well as lead project initiatives and participate in business-as-usual activities. 

WHAT OUR PRINCIPAL ENGINEERS ENJOY MOST

  • Responsible for engineering activities for operating, maintaining and enhancing the health of Video Operations applications, video control plane and encryption systems to include Digital Addressable Controller (DAC), RADD’s, EC, KLS, BST, SDM, vDCM’s, OM’s, ARPD’s, Bulk Encryptors NE3K, all OAM&P CommScope devices, RPD’s, Service groups, Traffic Engines, AVCC.
  • Actively and consistently support all efforts to simplify and enhance the customer experience.
  • Working in the Active Video ecosystem supporting Spectrum Guide.
  • Integrates communication architectures, topologies, hardware, software, transmission and signaling links and protocols into complete network configurations.
  • Advanced knowledge in fault restoration and troubleshooting of Encoders, QAMs, Edge QAMs, Multiplexers, Set-top Boxes, VOD systems, Electronic Program Guides, and Switched Digital Video Systems.
  • Provide leadership and ensuring success for testing new firmware, software, and hardware supporting Charter’s video solutions.
  • Implement standard processes and method of procedures (MOPs) for upgrading and maintaining Video systems in conjunction with functional, performance, and business requirements provided by product and engineering teams
  • Identify and correct monitoring and alerting gaps to prevent outages.
  • Timely and accurate information and status updates to functional leaders.
  • Provide day to day leadership, mentoring, training and technical guidance to team members.
  • Collaborate on and create scripts with vendors and engineering to help resolve or mitigate platform issues.
  • Collaborate on and create automation with vendors and engineering to improve implementation processes.
  • Ensure projects are accurately estimated and delivered according to schedule.
  • Work with the field on the implementation of video network related projects.
  • Analyzes and revises existing system logic difficulties and documentation as necessary.
  • Mentors and guides the work of technical staff. Reviews work plans and designs and advises on improvements.
  • Knows, understands and follows company policy. Performs other duties as requested by manager.
  • Maintain accurate record keeping of system architecture.

WHAT YOU’LL BRING TO SPECTRUM

Required Qualifications

  • Experience:
    • Engineering work experience – 5+ years
    • Project management work experience – 5+ years
  • Education: Masters or Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or related field or related work experience
  • Technical skills:
    • Basic knowledge of related industry specifications and standards IEEE, ANSI, Fiber (Multimode, Single mode, UTP, etc.), Bridging, Switching, Routing, Ethernet and Transport technologies and protocols
    • Basic knowledge in network design, network architecture, protocols and network topology
    • Basic knowledge in TCP/IP and the OSI Model
    • Basic knowledge in using ticketing and software tools to support the current operations.
    • Basic knowledge of network devices and basic network appliances Basic knowledge of network designing software, such as Visio
  • Skills:
    • Excellent communication skills and the ability to work well with all levels of business users in a professional manner.
    • Extensive experience with collaborating and building team consensus when interacting with both the leadership and the implementation teams.
  • Abilities:
    • Ability to read, write and speak the English language
    • Ability to use personal computer and software applications
    • Ability to perform duties in a very fast pace environment and ability to learn new technology quickly
  • Travel Ability: Office environment

    • Full time
    • This position is eligible to work in a hybrid work model (combination of in-office and remote days

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of company products and services
  • Understanding of RF (radio frequency), broadcast and cable industry knowledge
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and managing engineering projects
  • Experience working in an Agile environment
  • Communicating technical information effectively with both technical and non-technical audiences

Preferred Education

Industry and vendor specific certifications and training preferred (Arris, Cisco Explorer Controller (EC), SCTE, Cable labs).

The base pay for this position generally is between $110,800.00 and $196,400.00. The actual compensation offered will carefully consider a wide range of factors, including your skills, qualifications, experience, and location. We comply with local wage minimums and also, certain positions are eligible for additional forms of other incentive-based compensation such as bonuses.
