JOB SUMMARY

Charter’s Platform Infrastructure and Environment Support (PIES) team is looking for an experienced, self-driven, analytical, and strategic Systems Engineer. The System Engineer II will be responsible for maintaining, administrating and securing our Linux/Windows virtual infrastructure within our lab environment.

The successful candidate will have:

  • The ability to create detailed documentation.
  • The ability to follow and implement established change and control policies and procedures.
  • The ability to troubleshoot OS level systems administration issues (Linux and Windows).
  • A working knowledge of development tools, application frameworks, and testing tools.
  • The ability to read, write, speak and understand English
  • Knowledge in using ticketing and software tools to support current operations.
  • The ability to use vendor-provided or Charter-provided computer and software applications.
  • The ability to work in a team environment.
  • The ability to perform duties in a very fast-paced environment and ability to learn new technology quickly.
  • A minimum 2 years of System Administration experience (any OS).
  • A proven ability to work well with internal clients, including development, operations, and QA teams.
  • Experience in using ticketing and software tools.
  • Experience with virtualization templates, VMs provisioning and de-provisioning using vSphere.

WHAT OUR SYSTEMS ENGINEERS ENJOY MOST

  • Actively and consistently support all efforts to simplify and enhance the customer experience.
  • Actively support the team’s ticket queue, providing up-to-date status and proactively calls out blockers.
  • Documents systems configurations and upgrades.
  • Monitors and assists in managing applications, device availability, network conditions and status, system reliability and performance, service and program maintenance and storage resources.
  • Works with core service engineers to determine needs.
  • Generates reports on server and application availability and performance.
  • Perform platform systems management including installation, connectivity, access, and availability.
  • Provides engineering support for development and performance test teams and production operations
  • Perform security activities such as patching and scanning.
  • Perform other duties as requested by supervisor.

WHAT YOU’LL BRING TO SPECTRUM

Required Qualifications

  • Experience:
    • Application Development experience in relevant areas – 3 + years of experience
    • Network OSS application experience – 2 + years of experience
    • System Administration experience - 2 + years of experience
    • Database support and development experience – 2+ years of experience
    • Enterprise Application Integration (EAI) – 2 + years of experience
  • Education:
    • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent experience; May require Industry Standard Certifications
  • Technical Skills:
    • Skills Demonstrated in-depth ability to conduct design sessions to specify solution designs for feasibility, cost, and functionality
    • Demonstrated in-depth ability to create detailed documentation to functionally understand new and existing applications
    • Demonstrated in-depth ability to follow and implement established change and control policies and procedures
    • Demonstrated in-depth ability to troubleshoot application problems
    • Demonstrated in-depth knowledge of development tools, application frameworks, and testing tools
    • Demonstrated in-depth knowledge of OSS applications and software
    • Demonstrated in-depth knowledge of choosing the appropriate lifecycle and the planning, monitoring and control of the systems engineering process
  • Skills:
    • Demonstrated in-depth ability to conduct design sessions to specify solution designs for feasibility, cost, and functionality
    • Demonstrated in-depth ability to create detailed documentation to functionally understand new and existing applications
    • Demonstrated in-depth ability to follow and implement established change and control policies and procedures
    • Demonstrated in-depth ability to troubleshoot application problems
    • Demonstrated in-depth knowledge of development tools, application frameworks, and testing tools
    • Demonstrated in-depth knowledge of OSS applications and software
    • Demonstrated in-depth knowledge of choosing the appropriate lifecycle and the planning, monitoring and control of the systems engineering process
  • Abilities:
    • Ability to read, write, speak and understand English.

Preferred Qualifications

  • System administration experience (Linux & Windows) - 3+ years
  • Experience with security tools such as SNMP, Qualys and Tanium.
  • SSL certificates requisition, procurement, installation, and validation.
  • Scripting and automation using languages such as Python, PowerShell or Shell scripting.
  • Experience creating documentation such as how-tos and troubleshooting articles
  • Experience with ticket tracking systems – JIRA

The base pay for this position generally is between $75,200.00 and $120,000.00. The actual compensation offered will carefully consider a wide range of factors, including your skills, qualifications, experience, and location. We comply with local wage minimums and also, certain positions are eligible for additional forms of other incentive-based compensation such as bonuses.
