The Systems Engineer III - AWS's primary role is to support new and updated software and infrastructure changes for new and existing business initiatives that also increase operational performance and developer agility. We are DevOps thought leaders in automation and infrastructure. We automate tasks, implement monitoring, restore environment health and deal with infrastructural components within large-scale systems we build. We are the glue that keeps Pre-Production services up and running for our customers.
In addition to the general duties of a Systems Engineer III described below, the Systems Engineer III - AWS will have responsibilities specific to the AWS environment:
- Daily tasks include a wide range of activities, including monitoring system health, troubleshooting issues, deploying microservices, migrating applications, and working on new systems and technologies.
- Building cloud technology expertise by deepening their knowledge and skills by working in areas like security, networking, and AWS services.
- Review and deploy cloud infrastructure that supports new and enhanced business applications and services, ensuring reliability and performance
- Closely work with and collaborate with development, testing, operations, and other teams to understand their needs and implement cloud solutions that meet their requirements.
- Actively and consistently supports all efforts to simplify and enhance the lab tenant experience.
- Interfaces with other teams to collect and define project requirements and MOP reviews for
automating and deploying microservice applications or technology stacks. - Code and perform continuous automation testing of software to ensure proper and efficient execution
and adherence to business and technical requirements.
Write programs according to specifications, and define specifications for complex programs and
monitoring solutions. - Monitor and repair critical systems on an as needed basis.
Generate reports and/or data through database management, data administration and data extraction
techniques. - Develop and maintain technical documentation.
- Serve as final escalation point to resolve incidents and problems for applications and microservices
supported by the team in accordance with identified Service Level Agreements. - Provide system users and management with system analysis and improvement recommendations.
- Identify and recommend system design/requirements needs for software enhancements.
- Participate in continuous performance improvement sessions to discuss opportunities to improve
processes and/or standards. - Coordinate with technical teams to analyze and resolve software related problems causing operational
difficulties, advising on specialized features and functions. - Maximize the efficiency of the various software systems by implementing, monitoring, testing and
auditing new software programs. - Follow established configuration/change control processes.
- Collaborate with customers and internal/external technical teams to identify software problems and
communicate remediation plans. - Mentor and coach junior team members.
In addition to the general requirements described below, there are knowledge, skills and ability requirements specific to the Systems Engineer III - AWS role:
•Containerization: Strong experience with technologies like Docker and Kubernetes.
AWS Services: Experience with common AWS services like EC2, RDS, S3, VPC, and CloudFormation.
• Hands-on experience with AWS, Kubernetes, MongoDB, Oracle, MySQL, Ansible, Chef, or similar technologies.
- Automation: Experience with automation tools and frameworks and scripting (Python, Java, Ruby, JavaScript, Bash, Perl)
- Database Administration: Experience with databases like MySQL, MSSQL, Postgres, DynamoDB, MongoDB, and ElasticSearch.
- Strong experience working with DevOps engineers to build and deploy infrastructure with cloud deployment technologies and local data center solutions.
- Pipelines: Experience with CI/CD (Git, Gitlab, Jenkins, Argo, Helm), runners and webhooks.
- Networking and Security: Understanding of networking concepts and security best practices in the cloud.
• Strong Understanding of Agile development methodologies.
• Experience with APIs and services using prevailing design models (REST, SOAP).
• Experience with monitoring technologies such as Splunk, DataDog and Grafana.
• Experience with programming languages (Python, Java, Ruby, JavaScript).
• Experience with scripting languages (Shell, Puppet, BASH, Perl).
• Experience with infrastructure automation technologies (Kubernetes, Rancher, Docker).
• Experience with CI/CD (Git, Gitlab, Jenkins, Argo, Helm), runners and webhooks.
• Experience with software security principles and patterns.
• Ability to collaborate with and contribute to a common culture of excellence.
• Experience with test-driven development and automated testing frameworks.
• Must be capable of delivering on multiple competing priorities with little supervision.

As a Systems Engineer III you’ll design, develop, and implement high-quality OSS upgrades and enhancements using approved system architecture and designs. You program multiple OSS applications while providing application administration of OSS software. You collaborate with teams in person and digitally within an office environment.
WHAT OUR SYSTEMS ENGINEER III ENJOY MOST
Actively and consistently support all efforts to simplify and enhance the customer experience.
Coordinates with internal departments to review existing integration capabilities, data sources, and proposed solution designs for feasibility, cost, and functionality.
Conducts design sessions with appropriate participation from architects and engineers.
Creates detailed design documents and functional specifications for new applications / services and for enhancements to existing systems/services.
Collaborates to creates configuration designs for design and implementation of various environments.
Creates work effort estimates for new features and bug fixes for use in prioritization and release management.
Develops core code modules, unit test tools and release notes for enhancements and bug fixes.
Reviews new development tools, application frameworks and testing tools for functionality/effectiveness. Installs, administers, configures, and maintains OSS applications including operating systems and related software.
Provides 'on call' support to resolve OSS application issues after normal business hours.
Uses established change management processes, requiring operational procedures be performed with minimal customer impact, (i.e. during established maintenance window).
Works with database administrators to configure, tune and maintain databases in variety of languages.
Documents systems configurations and upgrades.
Designs and implements change and control policies and disaster recovery plans; lead troubleshooting efforts to restore functionality in the event of an outage.
Monitors and assists in managing applications, device availability, network conditions and status, system reliability and performance, service and program maintenance and storage resources.
Perform other duties as requested by supervisor.
WHAT YOU’LL BRING TO SPECTRUM ENTERPRISE
Required Qualifications
- Experience:
- Application Development work experience - 5+ years
- Network OSS application work experience - 4+ years
- System Administration work experience - 3+ years
- Database support and development work experience - 3+ years
- Enterprise Application Integration work experience - 3+ years
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in computer science or related field, or equivalent experience; May require Industry Standard Certifications
- Technical skills:
- Must be proficient in MS Office
- Demonstrated communication skills and the ability to work well with all levels of business users in a professional manner
- Increased knowledge and ability to make decisions around service ticket requests utilizing software such as Remedy
- Expert level knowledge around system administration tasks and ability to provide recommendations around approach to leverage resources
- Abilities:
- Ability to read, write, speak and understand English
- Advanced ability to conduct design sessions to specify solution designs for feasibility, cost, and functionality
- Advanced ability to create detailed documentation to functionally understand new and existing applications
- Advanced ability to follow and implement established change and control policies and procedures
- Advanced ability to troubleshoot application problems
- Ability to effectively transform an operational need into a description of system parameters and incorporate those parameters in the control of the total system development to achieve an optimum, cost-effective balance of all system elements
- Advanced knowledge of network and systems engineering systems
- Travel: Office environment
- Schedule: Full time; This position is eligible to work in a hybrid work model (combination of in-office and remote days)

The base pay for this position generally is between $78,900.00 and $139,500.00. The actual compensation offered will carefully consider a wide range of factors, including your skills, qualifications, experience, and location. We comply with local wage minimums and also, certain positions are eligible for additional forms of other incentive-based compensation such as bonuses.
