The Communications team is responsible for managing and enhancing Charter’s reputation and image through strategic communication with key stakeholders, including the news media, employees, community partners, and the general public. We develop and execute communication strategies, craft impactful messages, and coordinate media relations in support of the Charter and Spectrum brands.


BE PART OF THE CONNECTION

As a Senior Director of Communications, you will play a pivotal role in shaping and executing media relations, internal communications and Community Impact priorities. This includes overseeing the communication aspects of new technology and product launches, marketing campaigns, diversity and inclusion initiatives, community impact efforts, and employee-related announcements. Additionally, you will serve as primary company spokesperson for a large regional business unit.

Major Duties and Responsibilities

  • Developing excellent press relationships with traditional consumer, trade, and new media, pitching major publications and securing stories about the company’s connectivity products and services.
  • Leading the communications department on a cross-functional regional leadership team and representing the region in a highly integrated corporate communications organization.
  • Providing guidance to regional business leadership in routine and crisis communications situations in coordination with corporate communications; managing crises directly as needed that can occur 24/7.
  • Identifying, writing and editing compelling stories that build the Charter and Spectrum brand through the company’s external and internal websites.
  • Coordinating Charter’s community impact strategy at the local market level through events, partnerships, communications and cross-functional collaboration.
  • Other duties/responsibilities as assigned

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum 15 years of experience in public relations/communications, with demonstrated success in media relations
  • Excellent writing and proofreading skills
  • Experience building and maintaining strong relationships with news media
  • Experience crafting and pitching stories to news media
  • Experience managing communications in crisis situations
  • Strong storytelling skills that can be applied to internal and external communications platforms
  • Must be detail oriented, and manage a complex and evolving workload in a timely and efficient manner
  • Knowledge of AP style and common terminology in the media space
  • Ability to communicate with all levels of management and maintain confidentiality as needed
  • Ability to work independently, prioritize and manage multiple projects simultaneously under pressure of short deadlines, all while remaining calm under pressure
  • Self-motivated, willing to work independently and/or pitch in where needed
  • Bachelor’s degree

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in business, communications or journalism discipline
  • Experience in telecommunications, wireless, cable/satellite TV, broadband, or other consumer-facing technology preferred

Working Conditions

  • This position is eligible to work in a hybrid work model (combination of in-office and remote days).
  • Due to the nature of this role, the flexibility to respond to and work a crisis during “off hours” or on a weekend is sometimes required.
  • Occasional travel <5%
