
Director, Design Operations & Portfolio Management

Are you ready to shape the strategic direction of digital platforms that drive exceptional customer experiences? As a Director, Design Operations and Portfolio Management, you will be responsible for the strategic direction and portfolio management of a matrixed team of Product Managers, Program Managers, and Program Delivery Managers that reduces complexity across a design portfolio supporting multiple organizations across Charter. Design and maintain operational frameworks for intake, prioritization, scoping, and reporting across a diverse team of design disciplines including Product Design, UX Research, Content Design, Graphic Design, and Design Systems. Alongside the UX Research team, define and report on operational metrics to assess team health, efficiency, and program success. Lead initiatives that support onboarding, team rituals, knowledge sharing, and continuous improvement.
How You’ll Make an Impact
- Lead an innovative and collaborative team to produce exceptional digital products that enhance the customer experience; lead development of new products, technologies, and initiatives
- Establish and monitor performance targets for management
- Provide mentorship for team growth and advancement; lead and participate in succession planning
- Review selections on bids for contracted projects and provide recommendations as necessary; oversee capital budget process and execute approved budget plan
- Responsible for the performance of all software that supports the design operations team and the quality and accuracy of reporting that comes out of the software
- Build and refine cross-functional teams to efficiently deliver key outcomes and resolve technical debt; build, maintain, and iteratively improve the cross-functional and lean team with a variety of roles that is designed to efficiently deliver outcomes
- Align team to departmental defaults such as instrumentation, universal design, brand and experience consistency as well as advocate for deviations from defaults where beneficial to the team
- Develop processes for cross-functional skills development within team; uphold team operating rhythm to enable data-driven iterative improvement; ensure that the team is changing and iterating as a cohesive, inclusive unit
- Develop and operationalize a communication plan that ensures alignment with internal and external teams; create routine communications for executive consumption regarding roadmap delivery, platform/feature quality and team performance
- Be a thought leader for agile practices across Design and Research, using relevant practices, tools, and strategies to create efficiency and consistency across the organization

What You’ll Bring to Spectrum
Required Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
Experience
- 8+ years of technical and/or product management experience
- 8+ years of experience leading complex projects
- 5+ years of team (direct staff) leadership
- 2+ years of budget management experience
Skills
- Ability to read, write, speak and understand English
- Advanced cognitive, analytical and communication skills
- Effective problem resolution techniques, ability to find solutions
- Advanced business acumen and sense of urgency to achieve business results, customer focus, good communication skills and capable of balancing strategic initiatives with immediate business needs
- Expert on product and outcome, seeks learning opportunities and is not above any of the details
- Understands where the customer and industry are going and how our products must adapt to meet those needs
- Ability to make decisions and solve problems while working under pressure, prioritize and organize effectively and independently, and deliver against several initiatives simultaneously
- Ability to develop, communicate and implement strategies and tactics, analyze and interpret data and synthesize recommendations, manage, motivate and train cross-functional teams, and deliver big meaningful changes across the organization through all possible means of persuasion

- Master's degree and/or equivalent professional experience
Experience
- Experience working closely with UX Research, Design, or Product
- Related industry experience - Cable, Telecommunications, Software/Online Services

The base pay for this position generally is between $138,930.00 and $246,290.00. The actual compensation offered will carefully consider a wide range of factors, including your skills, qualifications, experience, and location. We comply with local wage minimums and also, certain positions are eligible for additional forms of other incentive-based compensation such as bonuses.
