Principal Engineer I

Are you a seasoned engineer with experience creating, supporting and managing network automation in a data center environment? If so, the Principal Engineer I role could be a fit for you. The ideal candidate will have a strong and demonstratable combination of network operations experience (Cisco, Juniper, Arista), development experience (Python), Ansible, and UNIX/Linux related systems experience to facilitate the design and execution of Spectrum’s network automation opportunities, platforms, and tasks.
WHAT OUR PRINCIPAL ENGINEER I ENJOY THE MOST
- Designs, implements, monitors, enhances and troubleshoots systems in assigned areas.
- Analyzes, tests, and reviews and revises existing system logic difficulties and documentation as necessary.
- Provides Engineering Technical support and guidance to regional personnel and ensure all technical integration, changes, standards and documentation are met.
- Adheres to industry specific local, state, and federal regulations, as applicable.
- Responsible for the creation, maintaining, and execution of automation tasks supporting our Data Center network and Cloud Infrastructure
- Develop and drive customer self-service tooling and workflows to ease operational efficiencies and accuracy.
- Automation of network focused change efforts including network configuration tasks, standardization updates, software upgrades, provisioning, compliance auditing, and validation of changes.
- Working with multiple teams on the evolving needs surrounding automation, orchestration, and new test cases to support the operations environment.
- Input into architecture design around software defined networks, network automation, and orchestration while maintaining best practices.
WHAT YOU’LL BRING TO SPECTRUM
Required Qualifications
- Experience:
- Five (5+) years engineering work experience.
- Five (5+) years project management work experience.
- Education:
- Masters or Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or related field or related work experience.
- Technical Skills:
- Experience with network devices, appliances, and design software (e.g., Visio).
- Developing integration and working with API / RESTful / HTTP services.
- Strong working experience across various networking vendor platforms (Cisco, Juniper, Arista, F5, A10).
- Experience with modeling and markup languages such as YANG, XML, and JSON.
- Strong scripting and programming skills, particularly in Python, for automating network functions.
- Familiarity with IPv4, IPv6, API/RESTful services, and network automation frameworks (e.g., Ansible, Napalm).
- Skills and Abilities:
- Knowledge of related industry specifications and standards IEEE, ANSI, Fiber (Multimode, Single mode, UTP, etc.), Bridging, Switching, Routing, Ethernet and Transport technologies and protocols.
- Understanding of TCP/IP, the OSI Model, and related technologies (Fiber, Ethernet, Bridging, Switching, Routing)
Strong analytical, problem-solving, organizational, and communication skills; systems and Linux/UNIX experience is a plus.
- Work Environment:
- Office environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of company products and services.
Experience working in a network operations group.
Preferred Education
- Cisco or Juniper related certifications (CCNA, CCNP, CCIE, JNCIA)
Industry and vendor specific certifications and training preferred (Cisco, Juniper, Alcatel-Lucent, etc.).

The base pay for this position generally is between $110,800.00 and $196,400.00. The actual compensation offered will carefully consider a wide range of factors, including your skills, qualifications, experience, and location. We comply with local wage minimums and also, certain positions are eligible for additional forms of other incentive-based compensation such as bonuses.
