Telephone Ops Engineer II
JOB SUMMARY
As a Telephone Ops Engineer II, you'll be responsible for managing the central office switches deployed by the company. You'll be specifically responsible for performing or providing support for the following functional areas Operations, Administration, Maintenance, and Provisioning. Switches may be Constant Bit Rate (CBR)/Time Division Multiplexed (TDM) or packet based such as Voice Over IP soft switches.
WHAT OUR TELEPHONE OPS ENGINEERS ENJOY MOST
- Actively and consistently supporting all efforts to simplify and enhance the customer experience.
- Conducting daily detailed DNHC process for assigned areas of responsibility.
- Managing all telephony equipment under limited supervision.
- Following established guidelines for telephone network daily health check procedures and call out protocols during outage situations.
- Preparing detailed RCA documentation as a post mortem for critical outages.
- Configuring and troubleshooting SS7, ISUP, and SIP with limited assistance and guides TOE I with execution.
- Performing installation and turn up of Trunk Groups and augmenting as determined by Traffic and Capacity Team.
- Understanding telephony circuit architecture concepts, OC12, OC3, DS3, DS1 etc.
- Creating mops and plan changes in advance with limited assistance.
- Assuming key role in trouble shooting efforts during major outages and provides guidance to TOE I.
- Assuming key role in all Residential and Business telephony issues.
- Documenting switch and telephone network architecture.
- Assisting other TOE in documenting switch and telephone network architecture.
- Demonstrating IP knowledge, L2, L3, TCP, UDP and telephony equivalents, able to troubleshoot IP connectivity issues or CCNT.
- Supporting all core telephony equipment including hardware and software upgrades, maintenance and expansions. Guiding TOE I in implementation.
- Evaluating and planning for core telephony equipment changes and expansions.
- Assisting in the development of on-going reporting.
- Performing other duties as requested by supervisor.
WHAT YOU'LL BRING TO SPECTRUM
Required Qualifications
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field or equivalent work experience.
- CCNA/CCIE or other industry certifications.
Experience:
- Three (3) years of Wireline, Wireless, or Broadband telephony switch installation or administration.
- Three (3) years of Database management and network configuration work experience.
- Three (3) years of Telephone Industry Experience.
Skills:
Intermediate ability to troubleshoot during outage situations.
Intermediate knowledge of telephony disciplines (SBC, VoIP Switch, SIP protocol, etc.)
Abilities:
- Ability to read, write and speak the English language to communicate with employees, customers, suppliers, in person, on the phone, and by written communications in a clear, straight-forward, and professional manner.
Ability to effectively work with provider vendors.
Ability to maintain professional composure and demonstrate critical thinking during stressful or complex projects.
Ability to use personal computer and software applications.
Valid driver's license with satisfactory driving record within Company required standards.
Preferred Qualifications
- Knowledge of company products and services
- Firm grasp of common word processing, spreadsheet, Presentation, Design software and concepts.
- Firm grasp of TCP/IP standard applications (Telnet, SSH, FTP, SMTP, HTTP)

- Occasional travel as required
Work Schedule: Must be able to work the following schedule: M-F 8am-5pm.

The base pay for this position generally is between $75,200.00 and $120,000.00. The actual compensation offered will carefully consider a wide range of factors, including your skills, qualifications, experience, and location. We comply with local wage minimums and also, certain positions are eligible for additional forms of other incentive-based compensation such as bonuses.
