Director, Senior Counsel
This position is in our Technology Contracts Group. The primary duties of this position include the review, negotiation, drafting, and interpretation of complex technology-related contracts for the procurement of SaaS, software licenses, and professional consulting services, as well as advising internal business clients on such matters. Additional duties may include the supervision of outside counsel, researching legal principles and precedents, fact-gathering, resolving vendor disputes pre-litigation, creating and updating form templates to reflect applicable corporate policies and practices, and ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulations. The position also requires providing work guidance to paraprofessionals and support staff in developing solutions to problems presented.
- Actively and consistently support all efforts to simplify and enhance the customer experience
- Support Charter’s Procurement organization and other Charter business units by advising, drafting and negotiating technology-related software and consulting service contracts for Charter, with limited direction from other attorneys
- Oversee and provide direction to attorneys, paralegals, and legal staff
- Coordinate and manage outside counsel
- Support various business units by assessing legal risks and providing legal solutions to business issues
- Meet with business clients and third parties
- Advise management on legal matters and compliance with applicable laws and regulations
- Provide legal advice and counsel for matters to the assigned business units or other client groups as needed
- Provide work guidance to support staff in developing solutions to problems presented
- Interpret laws, rulings, and regulations related to the Company’s business practices and for corporate entities in general
- Research legal principles and precedents and draft summaries of legal issues
- Prepare analysis on technology-related contracts and present to business units
- Interact regularly with internal clients and understand the interworking, challenges, and goals of the business units
- Research and evaluate different risk factors regarding business decisions and operations including collaborating with business units to devise efficient strategies
- Collaborate with attorneys in other legal practice areas and business units to proactively identify and address key legal issues for management
- Handle matters with multiple stakeholders
- Keep informed of industry-specific regulations and developments and ensure that appropriate risk management strategies are in place
- Provide business clients with legal knowledge and context
- Cultivate strong and productive partnerships with internal and external clients, colleagues and advisers
- Demonstrate a commitment to personal and professional development, and encourage and support othersothers to do likewise
- Seek opportunities that will produce substantial, long-term improvements for the team, the department and the company

- Advanced Microsoft Office Suite computer skills
Required Education
- Juris Doctorate degree from an accredited law school
- Admission to the State Bar in which Attorney practices
Required Related Work Experience and Number of Years
- Legal practice experience - 5+ years
- Designated area of expertise - 5+ years
Preferred Work Experience
- Technology related experience and/or significant complex vendor contract negotiations would be a plus

- Office Environment
- Some domestic travel will be required. Must have willingness and ability to travel up to and sometimes exceed an estimated 5% of the time
