Responsible for the strategic and/or tactical management of safety & environmental programs and procedures to ensure compliance with company policies and industry regulatory requirements. Assist in creation and implementation of company policies, programs and procedures. Responsible for incident data compilation, abatement, prevention, record keeping, safety & environmental communication and awareness, and field audits. Responsible for hiring, training, development and performance management of staff.


Actively and consistently supports all efforts to simplify and enhance the customer experience.

Support operations front-line leadership in creating a safety culture.

Act as a change agent to drive continuous improvement in safety & environmental performance.

Oversee and perform program audits to continuously check and improve safety & environmental performance, working cross-functionally with the appropriate and affected teams.

Oversee the compilation and review of incident investigation documentation and reporting in order to identify trends and prevent similar occurrences.

Ensure safety committees are active and effective.

Point of contact for external inquiries related to safety and environmental compliance matters.

Facilitate the implementation of incident preventive measures. Effectively communicate to all levels of management regarding current safety & environmental performance, potential hazards, serious incidents, and changes to guidelines affecting safety & environmental policies and procedures.

Effectively communicate to all levels of management regarding current regulatory inquiries as well as lead and oversee any required responses.

Effectively communicate safety and environmental compliance messages to all levels.

Oversee the maintenance of safety & environmental records and other related documentation for designated area of responsibility. Compile, review and present safety & environmental metrics and proposed improvement plans.

Coordinate safety & environmental awareness events, evaluations, program implementation, and other related activities.

Ensure adherence to industry specific, local, state and federal regulations as applicable.

Establish positive employee relations through effective communication and ongoing support.

Know, understand and follow company policies.

Perform other duties as requested by manager


Required Skills/Abilities and Knowledge

Ability to read, write, speak and understand English

Ability to use personal computer and software applications Ability to work independently

Ability to identify and understand data trends and develop actionable improvement plans from the data

Ability to foster a collaborative work environment and develop team members

Ability to manage and work with all levels of employees (Executive to Field)

Knowledge of company products and services

Knowledge of fire prevention programs

Knowledge of OSHA, EPA, DOT regulations

Knowledge of quantitative and qualitative methods for safety & environmental management

Knowledge of safety & environmental auditing, incident investigation and reporting

Knowledge of Microsoft office products

Ability to supervise others

Ability to maintain confidentiality

Knowledge of company products and services

Ability to effectively communicate at all levels

Valid driver's licenses with satisfactory driving record within Company required standards

Required Education

Associates and/or Bachelor’s degree in safety, environmental, or related field, and/or equivalent experience

Industry and vendor specific certifications and training (Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Safety Manager (CSM), or Certified Safety & Health Officer (CSHO). Certified Hazardous Materials Manager (CHMM), Associate Environmental Professional (AEP), or similar

Required Related Work Experience and Number of Years

Progressively responsible safety & environmental related experience – 6-7

Management experience - 3+

Preferred Skills/Abilities and Knowledge

Strong working knowledge of Telecom industry or equivalent.

In depth knowledge of Safety, Health, and Environmental programs and regulations

Preferred Education

Bachelor’s degree in safety, environmental, or related field Safety and/or Environmental professional certifications

Preferred Related Work Experience and Number of Years

Large company/Utility experience 5+ years

Environmental, Health and Safety related experience 5+ years

Environmental, Health, and Safety management experience 2+ years

WORKING CONDITIONS

Office environment

Field exposure

Frequent/Extended Travel - 25%

Exposure to moderate noise levels

Work and travel in inclement weather

Work outdoors in all kinds of weather and at all times of the day or night

Physical Requirements

Ability to walk over all types of terrain in all kinds of weather
