As a Principal Architect III at Spectrum, you will lead an enterprise-wide architecture program, guiding cross-functional teams to build innovative solutions that drive critical business outcomes. Your proven ability to execute proofs-of-concept for new architectures and platforms will contribute to your work on containerized and virtualized workload orchestration across hybrid environments for performance optimization, scalability, and observability (metrics, tracing, logging).


How You’ll Make an Impact

  • Provide technical direction and solutions to architectural, development, and operational teams on assigned projects
  • Lead architect teams to formulate and review new software/hardware platforms
  • Evaluate complex designs and resolve issues within internal and external systems to advance business projects
  • Design and support application systems and infrastructure within assigned technology domains
  • Develop architectural frameworks and enterprise solutions for system enhancements and multi-platform integration challenges
  • Collaborate with developers and business teams to create application roadmaps, align development plans, and resolve integration and capability gaps
  • Formulate criteria, technologies, and use cases for and execute proofs-of-concept for new approaches and platforms
  • Assess interfaces and interoperability among systems to evaluate impacts of changes and integrations
  • Shape technology strategy and establish best practices for code design, API contracts, version control and automation to drive innovation
  • Lead enterprise prioritization planning with executive management and provide technical guidance and mentorship to project teams
  • Review project code compliance with best practices in collaboration with development managers
  • Offer insights into project costs during the annual budgeting process

WHAT YOU’LL BRING TO SPECTRUM

  • Required Qualifications

    Education

    • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, MIS or equivalent combination of education and experience

    Experience

    • 10+ years of system installation, configuration, operations, software development, and/or database development experience

    Network Architecture & Engineering

      • Enterprise and service provider network design (LAN/WAN, data center, cloud, and edge).
      • Deep expertise in IP routing (BGP, OSPF, IS-IS), MPLS, and software-defined networking (SDN/NFV).
      • Strong knowledge of telecom networking standards (DOCSIS, Ethernet, 5G, Wi-Fi, optical).
      • Network security architecture, including NGFW, Zero Trust, and segmentation strategies.
      • High-availability design, load balancing, and fault-tolerant architectures.

    Software Development & Systems Engineering

      • Proficient in modern development languages (Python, Go, Java, C++).
      • API and microservices design (REST, gRPC, GraphQL) with strong versioning and contract practices.
      • Expertise in DevOps, CI/CD pipelines, and infrastructure-as-code (Terraform, Ansible).
      • Strong background in cloud-native platforms (Kubernetes, Docker, serverless).
      • Experience with distributed systems, big data, and AI/ML integration.

    Cross-Disciplinary Technical Skills

      • End-to-end system integration across applications, networks, and infrastructure.
      • Containerized and virtualized workload orchestration across hybrid environments.
      • Performance optimization, scalability, and observability (metrics, tracing, logging).
      • Proven ability to execute proofs-of-concept for new architectures and platforms.

    • Expert knowledge of software development and delivery (cloud computing, containerization, high-availability, mobile apps, big data, data at rest and in motion, AI, and machine learning)

    • Proven analytical skills to solve complex technology and business problems
    • Proven ability to present technical concepts to non-technical audiences
    • Effective written, verbal and presentation skills to all levels in the organization, including executive leadership, and external forums.
    • May need to use influential ability to lead teams to desired business outcomes
    • Effective organizational and leadership skills; business sense and sense of urgency to achieve business results
    • Inquisitive nature and eager to explore new concepts and approaches

      Preferred Skills/Abilities and Knowledge

      • Industry Certifications – CCIE, AWS Solutions Architect Professional, Kubernetes CKA/CKAD, or equivalent cloud/network architecture certifications.
      • Experience with Emerging Technologies – Proven track record designing solutions leveraging AI/ML pipelines, edge computing, or low-latency architectures (e.g., L4S, 5G MEC).
      • Proven Leadership in Enterprise-Scale Projects – Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional teams on multi-million-dollar, enterprise-wide technology initiatives.
      • Open Source & Standards Contribution – Experience contributing to open-source projects or standards bodies (IETF, IEEE, Broadband Forum, CNCF).
      • Multi-Cloud & Hybrid Expertise – Hands-on experience architecting solutions across AWS, Azure, GCP, and private cloud with an emphasis on portability and interoperability.

The base pay for this position generally is between $138,930.00 and $246,290.00. The actual compensation offered will carefully consider a wide range of factors, including your skills, qualifications, experience, and location. We comply with local wage minimums and also, certain positions are eligible for additional forms of other incentive-based compensation such as bonuses.
